Highway 41 Corridor
Overview
Acknowledging the continued growth and improvements to the Highway network around the region, the City is working hard to improve the safety of the Highway 41 corridor between Highway 5 to Highway 7. This includes leveraging other Highway Improvement projects, programming intersection improvements and pursuing funding for implementation of the projects. A reminder that Highway 41 is a trunk highway under the jurisdiction of MnDOT, and thus the City is not the responsible party for improvements to the corridor, but we do advocate for improvements.
The map and corresponding description below show current and future projects identified for the corridor
- The Highway 5 Improvement project is upgrading the Hwy 5 and 41 intersection, improving the W 78th Street and Hwy 41 intersection, and adding a pedestrian tunnel and trail to our network. Go to this LINK for more information.
- The Highway 5 Improvement project will be installing a temporary traffic signal at the intersection with the Minnetonka Middle School. A future roundabout is planned in 2028 for the intersection subject to successful bid pricing. Go to this LINK for more information.
- MnDOT has a project planned for 2029/2030 construction to improve Highway 7 from St. Bonifacius to Excelsior. As part of that project, the Hwy 7 and 41 intersection will be improved. Go to this LINK for more information.
- Roundabouts have been identified at both the Lake Lucy Road and Longacres Drive intersections with Hwy 41. Funding will need to be secured. No timing for implementation has been identified.
