The City of Chanhassen is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on various commissions. Terms begin in April, 2026 and are for three years unless otherwise noted. No prior experience is required to apply. Applicants will be required to interview with the City Council and appointments will be made in March 2025. Applications will be accepted until noon on Friday, January 30, 2026. Interviews will be scheduled for Monday, February 9.


Economic Development Commission

This commission is an advisory body to the City Council and the Economic Development Authority charged with the responsibility of researching, reviewing, and making recommendations on issues related to economic development. The Commission reviews ways in which the city can expand existing businesses, attract desirable new business, and revitalize existing businesses and the community as a whole. Meetings occur on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Planning Commission

This commission is an advisory body to the City Council that makes recommendations regarding site plans, subdivisions, special use permits, land use, and zoning regulations. The Commission also provides input into plans and programs that will have a long-term impact on the community, e.g. the Comprehensive Plan and special studies. Commission members must be good listeners, inquisitive, and commit to being prepared for each meeting by reading staff reports prior to the meetings. Meetings occur on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall with an average caseload of two items per meeting.

Park & Recreation Commission

This commission acts as an advisory board to the City Council, reviewing all recreation, leisure, and park-related issues. This includes park development, recreation programming, and implementation of the recreation section of the Comprehensive Plan. Meetings occur on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Environmental Commission

This commission acts as a public outreach and education board for the City Council. Issues addressed by the Commission include water quality, forestry, stormwater management, and water conservation education. Meetings occur on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Commission on Aging

This commission examines the needs of 55+ older adults in the community and reviews issues such as housing, information and referral services, outreach and programing, and transportation. Qualities being sought by the Commission include being enthusiastic, a team player, reliable, patient and flexible. Meetings occur on the third Friday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the City Hall.

  • One 3-year position and one 1-year position are available.


SouthWest Transit Commission

The SouthWest Transit Commission is a seven-person Commission representing the cities of Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, and Chaska is responsible for oversight of the agency. All Commission Meetings are held at East Creek Station - 2120 Chestnut St. Chaska, MN 55318. A work session is held before the meeting from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
