Overview

Welcome to our Rink Updates page for the 2025-2026 season! Here, you'll find the latest information on rink flooding, weather monitoring, warming house deliveries, and anticipated season openings and closings. Staff will post any updates here, so check back regularly to stay informed.

Updates

  • January 14, 2026: Warming houses and ice rinks are now open again and should remain open as weather conditions allow. Park Maintenance crews have been flooding to help improve ice quality and reduce the bumpiness, making the rinks more enjoyable to skate on.
  • January 12, 2026: Crews are treating ice as they prepare for cooler temperatures to return toward the end of the week. Once temperatures return to sustained single-digits, crews will work to get the rinks back to an enjoyable skating condition.
  • January 6, 2026: With the higher temperatures expected today and tomorrow, public warming houses and ice rinks will be closed until further notice.
  • January 2, 2026: Ice rinks and warming houses are open and resuming normal hours.
  • December 31, 2025: Crews are sweeping and blowing out the rinks. After that, they will apply an additional layer of water. The ice will be in poor to fair condition, but rinks will open at 4 p.m. today.
  • December 29, 2025: Crews are removing snow from the rinks, but rinks remain closed due to poor conditions. Once temperatures return to sustained single-digit temperatures, crews will work to get the rinks back to an enjoyable skating condition.
  • December 26, 2025: All city ice rinks are closed until further notice due to warm temperatures. We will post updates when temperatures return to sustained single-digit temperatures.
  • December 17, 2025: All family rinks and hockey rinks are open!
  • December 15, 2025: Warming houses are now fully hooked up. A significant amount of ice has been made, and rink conditions continue to improve. Rubber mats have been placed at all rinks.
Park Maintenance applied an additional coat of ice to help smooth conditions.
  • December 11, 2025: Our crews continue to work hard to prepare the outdoor skating rinks for the upcoming season. Staff have been clearing snow and flooding the rinks as weather conditions allow, and warming houses are being delivered today. While we’re making steady progress, current ice conditions are not yet ready for skating. We’ll continue to monitor the weather and ice quality over the coming days and will open the rinks once they are safe and ready for use. Thank you for your patience as we prepare everything.
  • December 9, 2025: Park Maintenance cleared the rinks and completed another round of flooding yesterday. However, snow we received and additional snow in the forecast will slow down progress. Thursday is also the planned delivery day for the warming houses at Bandimere Park and North Lotus Lake Park, which will be installed shortly.
  • December 5, 2025: Park Maintenance cleared the rinks and began flooding late last week. There is still a long way to go, but they were able to remove all snow and are in a good position to continue building ice. Snowfall has slowed progress, as it created slushy conditions on the surface. At this time, all rinks are covered with ice, but they are not yet ready for skating.
  • December 3, 2025: While it is still too early to begin flooding, preparations have begun for this season’s outdoor ice rinks. The asphalt bases of the hockey rinks have been blown out and drains are being sealed. There is currently no frost in the ground, which means we are unable to begin flooding or preparations for family ice rinks.

To begin flooding both types of rinks, multiple inches of frost in the ground and multiple days of sustained, single-digit temperatures are required. In a typical year with typical conditions, this means outdoor rinks open sometime in mid-late December. As of now, we expect to be consistent with that timeline. The team is ready to begin flooding as soon as the weather and ground allows!

Reminder: Sustained single-digit temperatures are required for our park maintenance teams to begin initial rink flooding on our grass and asphalt rink bases.

City Center Park

In the past, City Center Park has featured ice rinks. Due to the Civic Campus construction, there will be no ice rink offered at City Center Park for the 2025-2026 season.

The reduction is temporary, as the new family rink at City Center Park is expected to open for the 2026–2027 skating season and will be located over the green space north of the Performance Pavilion. The hockey rink will not be replaced, resulting in a temporary decrease in the number of hockey rinks from 2025 through 2028, prior to the opening of the Chanhassen Bluffs Community Center, where youth hockey associations will have the opportunity to rent ice time on full refrigerated rinks.
