Overview

The residential tree sale is an opportunity for Chanhassen residents to purchase trees through the city.

The tree sale for 2025 has officially ended. All trees have been sold. Please check back in Spring of 2026 for our next sale.

2025 Tree Species Information

(SOLD OUT) 'American' Basswood

Height: 60-100’ Spread: 30-50’	2-8	Yes	$50	Attracts pollinators.

This large tree has a rounded crown and is very popular in urban environments. Its leaves are large, heart-shaped, and uneven at the base. The flowers are attractive to pollinators like bees and butterflies. It is shade tolerant and prefers moist soils. Click here for more information.

Height: 20-30’ Spread: 20-30’	3-7	No	$50	A smaller tree perfect for smaller landscapes.

This unique tree is not commonly seen as a landscape tree but is hardy enough to tolerate dry, poor soils and harsh cold. This tree is small to medium in size and has a rounded growth pattern. The leaves are pinnately compound with 7-13 leaflets. The flowers are cream-colored; the bark is coppery bronze and peels on mature trees. Click here for more information.

Small, multi-trunked tree with dark green heart-shaped leaves. Small pink flowers bloom early in the Spring, oftentimes before other species. An excellent pollinator plant and it’s small size is suitable for smaller properties. Click here for more information.

This elm is tolerant of light shade and is adaptable to various sites. Non-showy green flowers in the Spring which go to seed in April-May. Leaves turn yellow in the fall. Click here for more information.

(SOLD OUT) 'St. Croix' Elm

Height: 60-75’ Spread: 70-90’	3-6	Yes	$50	Dutch elm disease resistant and hardy.

This tree was selected by Mark Stennes from a parent tree in Afton, MN, and is one of the many disease resistant elms available to plant. This tree will grow quickly and might require a little bit of pruning in its younger years to make sure it doesn’t get too unruly. Click here for more information.

These trees are considered a living fossil! Light gray bark with a slightly corky feel. Leaves are fan shaped and dark green that turn golden yellow in the fall. An excellent, hardy shade tree for the urban landscape. Click here for more information.

This tree is described as a deciduous small tree or shrub that offers year-round interest. It has an upright spreading growth pattern and leaves are silvery green. This tree blooms with white clustered 5-petaled flowers. It also creates small round fruit that ripens in June. Fruit is edible to humans and can be used to make jam or eaten fresh.
