Residents who regularly travel between Chanhassen and Excelsior via Powers Boulevard and Mill Street should prepare for significant traffic changes as Hennepin County begins construction on the Mill Street Pathway Project.
The project will create a new mile-long, multi-use pathway along the east side of Mill Street (County Road 82). The pathway will extend from 2nd Street/Morse Avenue in Excelsior to Holly Lane in Chanhassen, providing a safer connection for people walking, biking and rolling between the communities and linking directly to Chanhassen's existing trail system.
Beginning June 11 and continuing through September:
- Southbound Mill Street will be closed to all traffic between 2nd Street/Morse Avenue and Holly Lane.
- Northbound Mill Street will be closed to through traffic but remain open for local access only.
Drivers should expect delays, plan extra travel time and follow posted detour routes.
The project will also include a landscaped boulevard separating the pathway from the roadway, new pavement, drainage improvements and other safety enhancements.
