Your Guide to 2026 Road Projects

Post Date:04/08/2026 1:32 PM

As construction season approaches, several street and infrastructure projects are planned across Chanhassen and the surrounding area in 2026. These projects are designed to maintain and improve roads, enhance safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, and support long-term community growth. While some temporary disruptions are expected, each project plays an important role in keeping Chanhassen’s transportation network safe, reliable and ready for the future.

2026 Street Improvements: This project has two distinct areas. The first is the Fox Hollow neighborhood, which will undergo a full street reconstruction along with replacement of watermain and storm sewer. The work in this area is expected to take all construction season to complete. The second area is the Vasserman Ridge neighborhood, which will undergo a mill and overlay rehabilitation along with spot repair of curb, sidewalk and pedestrian ramps. The  work in this area is expected to take two months to complete. (More info here)

State Highway 5 Improvements: This Carver County led project will include expanding Highway 5 from two to four lanes, reconstructing existing pavement, upgrading intersections and improving pedestrian access. This project is designed to improve capacity and safety. A full closure is planned in 2027 to accelerate construction. (More info here)

Market Boulevard Improvements: This project was originally planned for construction in 2025 but was postponed to 2026. The scope shifted from a full reconstruction with dual roundabouts to a more targeted pavement rehabilitation approach. Planned improvements include widening at the railroad crossing, rehabilitation of street, trail and sidewalk pavements and replacement of the traffic signal at West 78th Street. Additional work includes pavement along Chan View, watermain improvements, street lighting and landscaping. A key component is the downtown water reuse system serving the Civic Campus and City Center Park ballfields. (More info here)

Great Plains/Lake Drive East Improvements: This project is a pavement rehabilitation project that also includes changing the intersection control of Great Plains Boulevard and Lake Drive to an all-way stop. (More info here)

Mill Street Pathway Project: Hennepin County, in coordination with the cities of Excelsior, Shorewood and Chanhassen, is leading a project to construct a multi-use pathway alongside Mill Street (Hennepin County Road 82) from 2nd Street in downtown Excelsior to Holly Lane in Chanhassen. The pathway will provide a key connection for users of the existing Chanhassen pathway through Shorewood to downtown Excelsior and create a safer way to walk, bike or roll along Mill Street. (More info here)

Pioneer Trail Improvements East of Chanhassen Boundary: This project includes resurfacing, shoulder widening, curb ramp updates and bridge replacement on Pioneer Trail from Trails End Road to Riley Lake Road to extend pavement life and improve accessibility. (More info here)
