What to Know About Chanhassen’s Local Sales Rate Update

Post Date:03/06/2025 8:30 AM

In compliance with Minnesota Statutes, section 297A.99, subdivision 12a, this city website notice is to inform Chanhassen residents, businesses and visitors that, in 60 days from the publication of this article (April 1), a local use tax on goods and services will go into effect.

Starting April 1, 2025, Chanhassen will have a 0.5% sales and use tax. The Minnesota Department of Revenue will administer this tax. Revenues will fund the projects identified in Ordinance No. 737 adopted December 9, 2024. The 0.5% sales tax applies to retail sales made into Chanhassen. Exemptions for the half-cent sales include groceries, prescription medications, baby products and clothing. The use tax applies to taxable items used in Chanhassen if the local sales tax was not paid.

This local sales tax was approved by Chanhassen voters on November 5, 2024, when voters choose to support this funding mechanism to construct a new community center. More information on the Chanhassen Bluffs Community Center can be found here.
